Streamlined Train Poster – 2024
Southern New Hampshire University was holding a student art show for juniors and seniors. The streamlined train poster drew significant inspiration from the Art Deco advertisements of the 1930s. Before the gallery was fully setup, people were taking notice in the artworks. Two SNHU faculty members took great interest in my gallery submission. Two 16 x 24-inch prints were made just for them.
Travel Poster – 2022
For this assignment, I needed to create a travel advertisement. The travel destination could be anywhere. I choose to promote the UK and the city of London. The image trace feature was used on an image of Big Ben to get an oil painting effect. I made the London bus my main focal point. A large brightly colored object grabs a person’s attention. Additionally, I found glyphs that looked like royal guards seen around Buckingham Palace. I figured they would make for a nice finishing touch.
Magazine Cover – 2021
With what I learned about typography hierarchy, I had to create a cover page for a fictional magazine.Firstly, the title of the magazine needed to be in large bold typefaces. Secondly, came creating the subheadings and summaries for potential articles. I used heavy and thin fonts to make the subheadings more distinguishable from the summaries. Lastly, framed images were added to correlate with the article summaries.
Crest Box Redesign – 2021
The goal was to produce our own version of a Crest toothpaste box. I had to make sure all the text on the official box was translated over to my design. The challenge was to use typefaces different to the ones used on the official packaging.
Spitfire Final Poster – 2020
Of the five options available for our final project, I choose to design a vintage propaganda poster from WWII. Initially, I searched the web for inspiration. I found inspiration from an advertisement for the 1939 film, 20,000 Men a Year. For my subject matter, I took a photo of an incomplete Spitfire model kit I had tucked away. I imported my photo into Illustrator and replicated the silhouette with the pen tool. Lastly the final plane shape is in front of a yellow backdrop with the slogan “Onward to victory”!
Cartoon Creation – 2020
The goal was to design an original cartoon character. I took design inspiration from Warner Bros cartoons. I gave him the clever name of Foster Frowsier. He is woodland creature with a bit of ill-smelling order. I started this project by drawing a basic body and head shape. Pictures of the sketches were then ready to scan and import into Illustrator. Digital refinements are what bought this character to life.
Self Portrait – 2018
This was my second ever assignment in Adobe Illustrator. For this project, I had to create a self-portrait from a photograph of myself. This photorealistic masterpiece consists of countless small shapes. This assignment received a certificate of recognition from The Scholastic Art Awards of New Hampshire.
